Combat & Player

Combat has been updated in a variety of ways in Dark Moon. While it's not a primary focus of this mod, Elden Ring is obviously very combat-focused, so some changes are definitely around!

Combat Changes

New Movesets.png

Rally

The Rally mechanic from Bloodborne incentivized aggressive combat by allowing the player to regain lost health by attacking after being immediately after being hit for a short time. Elden Ring reintroduced this system as the effect of Malenia's Great Rune, but Shattered--and by extension Dark Moon--has this on at all times. Select a difficulty at either Omnipotent Statue to enable this.

Malenia's Great Rune, in turn, has been updated in Dark Moon. When activated, it now makes every hit restore all pending Rally health instead of just activating Rally.

Rolls and Dashes

Shattered swapped all rolls with a Bloodborne style quickstep dash. Dark Moon maintains this change along with bringing rolls back when not locked on to an enemy. This effectively makes the dodging system identical to Bloodborne's and paves the way for much faster and engaging combat.

Death Blight Rework

Blight can now be afflicted on most enemies via constant exposure. When afflicted, Blight will tick their health down like Poison or Rot, but will also spread to nearby enemies slowly, but surely. Be careful though as this Blight will also spread to you.

In addition, if you proc Blight a second time on the same enemy and their health drops into critical range, their plague will overcome them, killing them instantly. Any activation of Blight you perform will now also cause self-buildup.

Vanilla Blight sources have been altered as well:

  • Fia’s Mist Blight buildup increased.

  • Death Lighting Blight buildup increased.

  • Death Flare (Eclipse Shotel) Blight buildup increased.

  • Death Lightning is now considered a Death Sorcery in addition to a Dragon Cult Incantation.

Unlocked Unique Ashes

Unique weapons and their Ashes of War have been unlocked meaning you can use their skills on any weapon. You can now also apply affinities to unique weapons and swap their Ashes with other Unique Ashes or regular Ashes. For example, if you want to use Black Knife's skill Blade of Death on a regular Dagger, you can now! Or take that same Black Knife and add fire damage to it by making it a Fire Black Knife.

Purchase these Unique Ashes from the Ash Master in Roundtable Hold once you've acquired their source weapon.

Bow Overhaul

Bows have been overhauled. They all scale better in general and each type has had specific changes.

  • Shortbows shoot incredibly quickly at the detriment of a damage nerf.

  • Longbows shoot three arrows instead of one, also at the detriment of a damage nerf.

  • Greatbows shoot faster.

Timed Block

Time a block just right and you’ll receive a huge burst of stamina, negate all incoming damage, and heal all pending Rally health!

This works on every type of block, including weapon blocks.

FP Regen

At all times now, regardless of class, you will regenerate FP passively at a percentage of your total. This incentivizes leveling Mind more as the higher your total the more ridiculous your passive regen becomes.

The Cerulean Amber Medallions, when equipped, now also grant FP on hit in addition to their vanilla total FP increase.

Torrent Speed

Shattered sped Torrent up significantly. This feels much better than it does in the base-game, albeit a little jank at times, but for replayability it’s incredible.

Equip Load & Armor Stats

This change made by Shattered has been maintained in Dark Moon. Equip load and armor stats have effectively been equalized across all armor. This allows for more of a focus on fashion, the real endgame.

Shattered Movesets

Shattered introduced new movesets that remix some of Vanilla's movesets. These may be removed or change in the future depending on how much trouble they cause with future planned features. For now though, here are those affected:

  • Straight Swords
  • Greatsword
  • Colossal Swords
  • Hammers
  • Katanas
  • Greataxes
  • Axes
  • Spears
  • Great Spears
  • Unarmed
  • Halberds
  • Curved Swords
  • Colossal Weapons

Visual Changes

Along with the changes to movesets, weapons have had their visuals changed slightly in various ways.

_

Affinity VFX

When you infuse a weapon now it will reflect visually with a subtle effect, usually present on the hilt of the weapon. These can be mixed and matched and persist during grease application as well.

New Idle Poses

There have been a handful of updates to the vanilla idle poses of certain weapon classes.

Notably two-handing smaller weapons has been changed, but there are a ton of these. Get in game and play around to see what's new!
